A Gay Afghane has told how they were allowed to “hurt and alone” after being attacked by a knife by the Taliban, when the country’s strange community faced persecution “in the community who has opposed them”.
Sara, who is not binary and does not want their last name included, left with 18 injuries after attacks in Kabul, including wounds along the legs, stomach, and back.
The 23-year-old said: “(The attackers) said, ‘Shame on you, it is our time to solve people like you.” I want to run away but, unfortunately, I can’t. I lay down, then lose awareness … When I opened my eyes at the hospital.
They did not take my belongings because they were not thieves, they were the Taliban.
They want to kill me … I think they want to get my cellphone and money but they refuse to take it. I’m really desperate.”
Sara added that they had not celebrated the history of LGBT +, which occurred in a month in February, because of their injury.
Sara was saved thanks to the help of Sadat’s nuccess, an American-American gay activist who had been assisted in escaping from more than 200 LGBTQ + Afghanistan.
Mr. Sadat, 42, from San Diego, California, said he was “surprised” Sara was still alive.
Sara told me that they lost a lot of blood,” said the author. “They have now been saved … I paid for their hostel, I paid their food, for everything.”
He added: “Before the Taliban in power, you have so many people who are transgender and non-binary. They work as contemporary wedding dancers – not only in private homes but also in a large wedding room in Kabul.
They work as a celebrity make-up artist on Afghan television; People have a fashion show, concert – it’s very visible.”
There are ISIS and Taliban, and the community has opposed them [LGBTQ + Community] … they are dying, and they are still trying to live their truth.”
Mr Sadat has collected $ 21,080 (£ 15,760) through GofundMe to evacuate LGBTQ + Afghanistan, contributed $ 8,000 (£ 5,990) from its own savings.
He described how he worked as a “army of one person” for the past six months and has now launched an organization to evacuate LGBTQ + Afghanistan, called Roshaniya, which he used to help Sara.
Roshaniya’s official Twitter account shared a photo of a SARA injury, and showed stitches on their feet and stab wounds on their lower back.
