Indeed, I have been to Idaho three times, and everything is intentional. However, I was not told about Lake Bitch during the trip. There is also a path from Selway Bitterroot Wilderness (3rd largest wilderness in 48) that will take you too and from the lake, if hiking and trailing are your choice.
So, how do fishing lakes in the middle of the wilderness get a fantastic name? Well, the truth is rather disappointing compared to anything that has been transformed by your imagination. There is a lot of factual information available, but from what we can collect, it is said to be the corruption of the French word “biche” (which means Doe), and that the French trapped initially named the “Anse de Biche.” So technically, it must be called Lake Doe, but we all know that prostitutes cannot be trusted.
