Authorities said they saved all tourists stranded at Murree’s North Hill Station after heavy snow trapped thousands in their vehicle and killed at least 21 people.

The military and team from the regional government continued to work on Sundays to clean the streets of the snow of more than 1.2 meters (4 feet) which fell on weekends, trapping tens of thousands of groups of groups to the popular hill resort, 40 km (25 miles ) Northeast the capital of Islamabad.

All stranded vehicles have been questioned [and] everyone in the vehicle shifted to help camps, “said a military statement released at the end of Saturday.

At least 157,665 vehicles have entered the small town on Friday and Saturday, with around 400 vehicles still trapped in the snow, an advisor to the Provincial Minister Usman Buzdar said in a statement on Saturday.

Some roads are reopened after being cleaned of snow but others remain closed, either because of the condition of the ice or the ongoing permit work, a military statement said.

Death raises extensive criticism of the government of Prime Minister Pakistan Imran Khan from citizens on social media, with many Khan’s statements that questioned this problem.

“Chase [and] annoyed at the tragic death of tourists on the road to Murree,” Khan tweeted on Saturday. “Unprecedented snow [and] in a hurry [people] continued without checking the weather conditions captured by the district admin was not ready.”

“So it’s just a mistake of visitors? What is the mechanism to remind people who enter this area?” Questioned senior journalist Asma Shirazi.

Others call an independent investigation of why the government does not predict or prevent developing situations.

“Relief for tourists still stranded in the snow in Murree is priority now. But the image of aid operations should not be used to clean up anyone from a terrible failure on January 6/7,” said the political leader of the Afraksiab opposition. “Only an independent investigation for the responsibilities distributed is the right answer.”
